Our Remarkable Campers are Valued Here!

Here is more of Ngo Minh's incredible life story, told by his mother Kathy:

In 1974, Ngo Minh's birth parents in Da Nang, South Vietnam, knew capture by the North Vietnamese was imminent. They valued their precious three-year-old so much that they were willing to send him ahead to try to escape capture with an aunt and uncle who were fleeing. His parents were captured, and after sailing the South China sea, Ngo Minh eventually arrived in Ft. Worth as a refugee in 1975. His uncle and aunt were not able to care for him but valued him enough to willingly place him with the state as a foster child.

My husband and I were just 23, and I was pregnant with our first baby when we learned of Ngo Minh. We fell in love with him, and he joined our family in 1976.

So, what does it mean to be valued? Giving up your only child so he can have life. Giving up your nephew so he can have a more abundant life.

We all want to be valued. We all want to feel that others value us. The infant, the child, the adult and the elderly. Don't you want to? Camp Summit has always offered Ngo Minh that in a unique way.

Ngo Minh, age 51, has been attending Camp Summit since 1978. But because Camp Summit has no upper age limit, he has not aged out and can still come to Paradise and experience the joy of camp!

Camp Summit is unique. There is no place like it for these incredible people. Here they are celebrated, honored, smiled upon, listened to, hugged, and valued. We all want to be valued. Camp Summit has always offered Ngo Minh that and we are excited that this summer will mark his 44th year there!

Camp Summit is a residential or sleep away camp for children, adults, and seniors with intellectual delays and/or physical disabilities with no upper age limit! Since 1947, we have developed and offered camping programs so no one is denied the life changing experience of camp! Our camp offers traditional activities like swimming, fishing, archery, arts & crafts, a fully adapted ropes course and much more! We adapt what we do for the individual needs of each camper and provide financial assistance so that no camper is denied due to inability to pay. In a typical year, Camp Summit makes the dream of coming to camp and playing in the outdoors a reality for nearly 2,000 campers!

Your generosity helps these campers experience the fun and community of camp while participating in nature and outdoor activities with programs designed to focus on abilities not disabilities! Thank YOU!
